Tara Lyn Strong (née Charendoff) was born on February 12, 1973 to Syd and Lucy Charendoff. His parents lived in Russia until they were forced to emigrate to Canada, escaping the anti-Jewish movement of the Russian Empire. In Canada, they settled in Toronto and raised Tara and her sister Marla.
She developed an interest in playing in a youngster, and consequently offered herself as a soloist in her school production. Although she did not know the Yiddish language, this did not prevent her from working with Yiddish theater and memorizing its lines phonetically. Not one to back down, Tara also performs at the Toronto Jewish Theater, where she has a role in A Starry Night and was featured in an audio cassette with the Habonim Youth Choir for “Lay Down Your Arms,” singing her lyrics in English and Hebrew.
At age 13, Tara had her first professional role as Gracie, in the production of The Musician. She also had a guest role on the action series T and T. Tara Strong would later be known for her work in cartoons and animations. Her first major cartoon role was in Hello Kitty. Furry Tale Theatre, playing the title role. She made an appearance on a live TV show, Mosquito Lake. Tara, looking to improve herself, decided to take improv lessons at The Second City in Toronto as she continued to play roles in both animated and real-life movies and shows.
