Miley Cyrus has beef with a baker. The singer found herself in hot water on Tuesday, June 4, after a baker who made a cake similar to one Cyrus used in an Instagram photo claimed the unique dessert was used without prior consent or compensation.
The baker, Becca Rea-Holloway, who goes by The Sweet Feminist on Instagram, quickly let the “Wrecking Ball” songstress know she was displeased about what she referred to as “direct theft” of her woke treat.
The cake in question is a white confection with rainbow sprinkles that boasts the phrase “Abortion is Healthcare” written in pink frosting on the front. Rea-Holloway initially posted the dessert to her Instagram in June 2018. She then re-shared it on May 15, 2019, after the Alabama State Senate passed a restrictive abortion law known as HB314.
Cyrus, 26, then shared an image to tease her collaboration with Planned Parenthood and Marc Jacobs, in which she is licking a cake that bears a striking resemblance to Rea-Holloway’s own creation.
Upon realizing that a cake that looked nearly identical to hers was being used on Cyrus’s social media, Rea-Holloway vented on her Instagram Stories. “This is my art work without credit! Anyone who knows anything about intellectual property/art work plz send me a message!,” she wrote, tagging the Grammy nominee.
In a subsequent post on Instagram, Rea-Holloway said this was “direct theft” of her work. She also called Cyrus’ actions “inexcusable.” That move was enough to get the Tennessee native’s attention.
“Hi, we saw the image online and didn’t realize it was yours. We will absolutely tag you for your work,” Cyrus commented on the post. She went on to explain that the image of the cake does not appear on hoodie she created with Marc Jacobs and Planned Parenthood in an effort to raise money for the organization.
“It is just on the post and not on the merchandise but we will absolutely tag you and give you the credit for your art,” the Hannah Montana alum added. “If you could please correct your post, as we’re going to make sure you have all the credit you deserve … thanks for sharing your art and inspiring us.”

Despite Cyrus’ ask, Rea-Holloway has made it clear she has no intention of backing down. “It doesn’t doesn’t change the fact that my work was used without my consent and it is not sufficient,” she replied. In another retort, she declared: “This is not ‘inspiration’, it’s theft.” The baker also claimed she has gotten “hundreds of threatening, horrible comments” from Cyrus’ followers since going public with her complaint.
Though the cake photo still appears on Cyrus’ Instagram page, she has since revised it and tagged The Sweet Feminist.
